Internal testing has demonstrated that BluePrint Now works well on Windows 7 and IE8. Perhaps there's something wrong with your specific setup that we cannot duplicate, but perhaps I can explain some of the things you describe. The reason there are no files showing up in the browser is that there may be no .dwg files in that particular folder. When first starting BluePrint Now there is a blank white drawing in the center of the screen by default. If you tell the browser to save your login information, the next time you start BluePrint Now, it will skip past the initial login screen. I hope that clears up some things.

Charles
SW Labs QA

Not quite there...but awesome start

I've been excited about Sustainability ever since I heard about it (about a month ago). Very excited about giving it a few test drives.

The Find Similar materials is a great tool, but needs just a few simple changes. I've tried to use it to find lower impact materials, but still get massive lists of materials which give me no immediate indication whether they will be better or worse in terms of ecological impact. I have to go through the list and select each material choice to look at how it compares to the current material. A simple way would be to highlight each material option in red/green, and better yet rank them (say in overall, as well as the four impact metrics). Also, I get nervous that I don't have other boolean operators when looking for similar materials. Often times I will want a material that will be "greater than or equal to", and the only option I have is "greater than". Well, that means it will exclude materials that are the same as what I've currently got (the workaround is to just reduce the metric by inputing a slightly lower value - say reducing the tensile strength by a small amount and selecting "greater than"). Also, I would really like to be able to look at other materials that are +/- a percentage, that could be useful....I think. Ideally, maybe I could perform a search that is -10% or greater than the current tensile strength, for example. A few points I immediately thought of.

Also, watched a video a week or so ago where they showed off their report generation, and that is not quite there. The report they showed looked polished and nice. What it spit out for me was not looking up to that standard...still, I may need to set up a few options to get that to show up nice. Not clear on that.

Sustainability is a nice tool for sure on a part level LCA. I love that it will be easy for designers to use! They just need to polish off the interface a little more....

This is the first add on or plug in that has a tutorial almost the same size as the little program you downloaded. :) One can conclude a few points from this observation. Either this small plug in, is very in depth and needs to have a lot of reading before time of use or that this small program cannot possibly be profound enough to sit inside of a world class MCAD program. I haven't found that to be true with many things coming out of the SolidWorks Labs so I am beginning on an optimistic foot. Indeed. :)

Good concept, needs a little honing

We deal with some pretty complex structures here, and oftentimes I make myself tree views of an entire machine's assembly structure just like this. This definitely would be a great tool to use, however there are some major issues with the current version (internal exe version 1.0.0.0).

1 - Long names. Typically our file format for major assemblies without our machines are "number station description", so naming something "123 456 B0 STA 01 LOAD COMPONENT" is a pretty typical filename. Problem here is that the tree view shows me the first 9 characters and some dots indicating that the name is longer than it likes to show. Frustrating when you're trying to see what you've already done and have to click each individual filename and scroll through with the arrow keys to see the rest.

2 - Linking to existing files. Pretty much the only way to survive in business, even in custom machinery, is to use standard subassemblies that do common things. Not being able to drag an assembly of a common component into the tree is pretty hindering.

3 - Export feature. Each custom machine we build uses a machine-specific assembly template for top level assemblies, and standard assembly templates for the rest. Obviously, this is not possible in the program's current configuration.

Other then all this, it seems like a great start. I very much hope to see this progress, as I definitely would put it to good use.

Nice demo, but it needs a lot of development to be useful in a production environment. We already use a similar concept in Powerpoint for initial top down design and documentation access. Needs the following;

Existing parts, assemblies, drawings easy to include
Ability to add custom icons for vendor purchased parts
Ability to add stuff like glue, pipe, cables, wire, etc
Ability to reshape the layout more to my liking - horizontal lines instead of diagonal, etc.
Ability to switch subassemblies and other icons on and off (explode and implode BOMs)
Ability to reference other trees without showing them
Ability to change color, shape etc of icons for specific requirements.
Tie ins to Parts and Vendors and similar. i.e. if I create a part in P&V, it creates an icon in Treehouse - and vice versa.
Hyperlink capability for each icon to other drawings assemblies, images, spec documents, test procedures, ECNs, etc.
Hyperlink icons to web addresses
Autocreation of part numbers to our standards
Auto add parts created with bottom up design in S/W

The final requirement is that the finished S/W assembly and Treehouse should match exactly. i.e Treehouse IS the BOM.

I can do most of this in Powerpoint now, so you've got to come up with something really special to make me change!

bp

I mentioned before that I think this is one of the best tools I've found to complement SW. However, since installing SP2 it doesn't work. The result - a nice white pdf with only the 3d viewing area visible. The buttons are there if you can find them but there is no text, no background image, no theme and no icons. I'm very disapointed because I use this more than eDrawings to communicate with my customers. Any comments on the future of this product?

Also, Aditya's problem sounds like an Acrobat version issue - you need Acrobat 8 to view these pdf's - I get the same result when using Acrobat 5 to view them ("Enable 3D View").

I installed Yahoo Widgets and found them to be very fun. The WatchIt Widget works swell as I can watch the network drive for changes to our main data set. However, when SolidWorks is running I get very strange graphic artifact problems in my drawing area. I thought it was my card and upgraded to SW's recommended driver with no fix. Then I noticed that the problem areas occurred only where I had a Widget open behind SW. My screen real estate is limited so I will probably not keep this on my CAD station. It is still very cool - thanks for the innovation!

Ireneusz, the Add-In should work with SolidWorks 2009 SP2.0.
Nice product, great for new projects

This is a handy piece of software for organizing NEW projects. It runs outside of S/Ws, and is light and quick.

During a test run this morning, I created a top level assembly with parts and several levels of sub-assemblies under it. Drawings were defined for all assemblies, subs and parts. Treehouse found all my templates without help, so it's menu already included my part/metric part template as well as the various drawing templates - ASME a,b,c, etc..

I assigned unique names to all documents in the tree. The tree was then sent to Solidworks with a one button click. On opening the top level assembly in S/Ws, the feature tree showed (as expected) the entire structure with all names in place. Drawings were linked.

This is NICE. There will surely be more files added as a typical projects moves forward, but this is a great organizational start.
