Presentation Studio

PDF is the standard method for sharing documents. Add in 3D capabilities, and now you've got documents really worth sharing.

With Presentation Studio you can create a Design Brief, Price Sheet, Technical Summary, Feature Review, or Product Specification in minutes. But unlike ordinarly PDFs, an embedded 3D model conveys your design in a way 2D just can't. The PDF can then be read on any computer with Adobe Acrobat 8 or above.

View a sample 3D PDF output file.

Notes: Now works with 64bit SolidWorks 2009!
Requires SolidWorks 2009 SP03 or higher.

Getting Started

After downloading and installing the add-in, it will need to be activated in SolidWorks. Select the "Add-ins..." entry under the Tools menu, bringing up the Add-in Manager. Find the Presentation Studio entry and make sure both of its checkboxes are checked.

Now that add-in is loaded, there will be a new Presentation tab containing the Layout command. This will launch the Presentation Studio Layout Property Manager.

Could be great!!!!

This would be awesome if the view component, and view orientation came up with a graphic. As it doesn't just yet an update to solve this would make this a neat little add-on.
I hope this runs in SolidWorks 2010

I am extremely happy with this add on. So are our customers. So my question is, will this app run in SolidWorks 2010. I really hope so.

Missing Appearences 09SP4
by: Tyler Wheeler on Friday, August 7 2009
I was wondering if it is not able to save appearances such as a knurl. I tried a few different things and could not get it to work. I also agree with others that there are some features that could be added to turn this good tool into a great one.
Blank View buttons in pdf file
by: Amal Senevirathne on Thursday, July 30 2009
I am using SW2009 SP4 on an Vista 32 Bit System and installed Presentation Studio. I really appreciate the concept of Presentation studio.
But I'm facing a problem with it. All the view buttons in the pdf file are blank. As it mentioned in a reply to a post, I tried turning open GL on and off but I coudn't make the preview visible on the view buttons.

RE: Problem - I like it so far
by: Charles Parez on Wednesday, July 15 2009
Jeff,

The problem with the button previews may have to do with an OpenGL setting in SolidWorks. To change the setting, please go to Options -> Performance and uncheck the "Use Software OpenGL" option. All SW documents must be closed in order to change this setting.

Please report back to us whether or not it worked. Thanks!

Problem - I like it so far
by: Jeff McNabb on Tuesday, July 14 2009
I'm running Vista (tried both 64-bit and 32-bit) Solidworks 2009 SP4.0

I'm able to generate the pdf, but I only get the 3d model in the main view. The select component and select a view boxes are all blank.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Problems Finding Toolbar
by: Jonathan Prentice on Thursday, July 2 2009
I am running SW09 SP3 on an XP 32 Bit System and installed Presentation Studio. It shows up under add-ins and both boxes are checked, but the Toolbar is nowhere to be found and it isn't showing up under the Command Manager. I tryed turning open GL on and off but that didn't help.

I would really like to take advantage of this application and would appreciate any help to get it up and running.

Thanks a lot in advance.

by: Justin Wells on Monday, April 27 2009
Looks great, couldn't get it to run correctly on a Vista Machine using SW.SP3 and also wouldn't uninstall. It kept complaining when trying to activate it via the add-ins, but worked great on our XP system.
Predefined Model Views

Predefined Model Views?
by: Dante DeGraaf on Monday, April 13 2009
I love it and we have the perfect application for it.

Is it possible to predefine the "Model Render Mode" of a pdf? Right now it's always "solid", but can you define it as "solid outline" or one of the others?

Also instead of editing the data.zip..customizing is easy by editing the files under...

the Open GL tick box was not ticked

as for the comment bellow

i was able to modify the font, logo, text size etc by changing files that where installed in the data1.zip

i hope this becomes a feature as someone with no computer knowledge would strugle with

the logo in the top left is a image file built into the background.jpg image files

and the text size and font can be modifyed by changing the theme.xml files

after the data was changed i just installed and ran with solidworks and when i make the pdf the changes i made where there
Neat concept but it needs compatibility with all 2009 SP's
by: Jody Stiles on Wednesday, April 1 2009
Pretty cool concept. Is it possible to get this to work with all service packs within 2009?

I understand this is an in-development product but there could be a whole lot more functionality in it.

1) Layout tool that allows the user to size and drag the views and text boxes.
2) Font control
3) Custom logos and fields
4) Perhaps the ability to put a 3D view window in a standard SW drawing that is then saved as a PDF.

conflict with SolidWorks SP2

The problem with the non-functional/visible buttons is a symptom of the conflict with SolidWorks SP2. We expect to have a fix ready for service pack 3. We appreciate your patience, thank you."****

When does SP3 come out? Even an approximate "guess-timate" would be good with me.

This would be a great addition to our drawing process. We often make-up renderings of our product for customers who have difficulty seeing the finished product. If I could send them a PDF like this it would eliminate MANY questions.

Very cool ... but button in pdf don't work ?
by: James Vernon on Thursday, February 26 2009
I'm using Abode Acrobat 8.1.3 and when I open the pdf presentation that was created I have a box with the 3d view in it which I can rotate fine, but there is nothing else on the screen. The buttons seem to be there but they are not visible. (cursor changes to button select if I move the mouse around the screen).

Really wanted to try this
I have SW2009 SP2.1
When trying to creat a PDF with views it crashes SW and then restarts
Really sad, please fix it
Love it, but what about SP2?
by: Amos Avery on Friday, February 13 2009
I mentioned before that I think this is one of the best tools I've found to complement SW. However, since installing SP2 it doesn't work. The result - a nice white pdf with only the 3d viewing area visible. The buttons are there if you can find them but there is no text, no background image, no theme and no icons. I'm very disapointed because I use this more than eDrawings to communicate with my customers. Any comments on the future of this product?

Also, Aditya's problem sounds like an Acrobat version issue - you need Acrobat 8 to view these pdf's - I get the same result when using Acrobat 5 to view them ("Enable 3D View").
RE: Changing background color
by: Charles Parez on Thursday, February 5 2009
Presentation Studio is installed in your SolidWorks application directory. Within that folder is a subfolder data\themes. Locate the theme you wish to alter and edit the background.png and thumb_background.png files in an image manipulation program. For lighter colored models, create a darker background either by using a Brightness/Contrast tool or with a Color Replace function.
RE: Facing a problem...if anyone can help.....
by: Charles Parez on Thursday, February 5 2009
Aditya,

Perhaps you do not have the latest version of DirectX installed or your graphics card does not support it? Regardless, you should be able to click on the "Enable 3D View" to make the model appear.

Good Luck!
Changing background color
by: kevin shultis on Wednesday, February 4 2009
Hey, great add on....unfortunately it is quite difficult to make out grey/silver parts on that grey/silver default background.

Changing background color in PDF does not seem to change background in view...

anyone know the work around?

While creating a PDF file for a part/assy, I am not getting the main big view.
I am getting a text line "Enable 3D View" inplace of view itself. (Same as a sample attached here with the product)
