As thanks to all of you who have tried the COLLADA Add-In and sent us feedback, we have made some enhancements.

Our latest improvements include:

  • Support for the latest version of MS Robotics Studio
  • Ability to export parts
  • Ability to export assemblies without motion studies
  • Limited support for SolidWorks 2008 - No motion is exported
  • Better feedback messages
  • Increased performance of exported models
  • Greater reliability of exported models
  • Support for Google Earth importing

Hi been trying this with out with Blender 2.49 and there appear to be some small issues.
-transparency imports as full rather than off - perhaps that is Google Earth specific that should be an option?
-camera orientation is 90 deg out
-lights position? and direction is wrong - should be locked to model beforehand?
-texture orientation inconsistant across adjacent faces
-some parts of assy partly duplicated and at 4x scale

possibly these are due to the exporter or possibly Blender...not sure which..
have any bugs been reported to or been found by SW labs?

Will you be updating the exporter to collada 1.5?
Blender will use 1.5 soon and it will support animation data
thanks

I like what I have seen about solidworks, it is very good. At work I use it for sheet metall fabrication, but since there is nobody how realy wants to help and since I have a BS in mechanical engineering and I do not want it to get to wast, I need to tell you that I like to design. Is there a way that I be able to buy a used solidworks software for my use at home? is it posible for you to let me know how much it will be . I love what I just saw here about assembly and drawing and was mentioned that they are all available for 2008 and 2009 . keep the good work and thak you.John Lotfi

Great news for all SW users. With this feature, you can now show your part/assembly on any website, without any installation required. Just any browser (IE, FF, Safari,....) on any computer (Windows, Mac, Linux) enables web visitors to walk in a 3D space and manipulate your 3D part built in SW.

I'm using Collada Export for SolidWorks to transfer files to 3DMax.
Then when I import it into 3DMax, I get an error saying that it cannot find the texture files (jpeg, bmp,....)

Is there somethig I need to do in SolidWorks or 3DMax to fix this problem?

How do I specify what texture files 3dMax should open with collada?

Thx

Thanks Charles.
Will 64 bit be supported within a few months?
I am hesitant to load two operating systems on a single system just to have this functionality, and I need the 64 bit environment to support larger amounts of RAM.
This Add-in would be very useful for me.

Support for x64 operating systems is not in this version of the COLLADA Add-In.
